“In comparison to graduates from many other universities, UMass Computer Science graduates receive the kind of education that better enables them to hit the ground running when they arrive in industry.” - Amit Singhal, Google Fellow and Senior Vice President of Search
UMass Amherst is the place to come for a well-trained data scientist.
The Center for Data Science is very proud of its students and wants to see them - BS, MS, and PhD - find good employment with good companies, like yours.
In addition to foundational computer science courses in systems, software, and theory, our data science students take classes in algorithms, web programming, knowledge discovery, computer vision, mobile health sensing & monitoring, information systems, and search engines. Additional classes are coming online as the field evolves.
All of our graduate students, and many of our undergraduates, participate in data science research during the course of their studies exposing them to future methods and making them strong candidates for employment.
Members of the Center’s Industry Affiliate Program will get assistance announcing available jobs to current students and get support to guide them to students who’d make a good match. They get exclusive access to our students via a special Data Science Career Fair held each October which gives recruiters personal access to our MS and PhD students as well as our BS students. Members can also use on-campus conference rooms for interviews.
