“Is this app safe for my child?” This is a crucial question for parents worldwide, but finding answers isn’t always easy. While app store reviews on platforms like Apple and Google provide some insight, reports of dangers—such as sexual exploitation of minors—can be buried under other user feedback and become too difficult to discover.
To address this, the Data Science for the Common Good (DS4CG) team identified and aggregated reviews flagging risks to minors across a curated selection of social apps. By increasing the visibility of these critical reports, the project aims to empower parents with better information to assess app safety.
This initiative highlights the importance of leveraging data for child safety and underscores the need for ongoing efforts to expand this work to more apps in the future.
