AI4CW 2025 BOSTON SESSION RECAP
On Tuesday, August 12th, the AI for the Commonwealth (AI4CW) program interns presented their projects to state agency leadership in Boston. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with the fourteen student interns as they presented the seven projects they completed this semester in partnership with Massachusetts state agencies.
This year’s projects showcased creative applications of AI that improved state operations, including streamlining workflows, enhancing customer support, and developing tools for information management and accessibility. The program is managed by the UMass Amherst Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in partnership with the Public Interest Technology Initiative (PIT@UMass) and the Massachusetts Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (EOTSS).
AI4CW is a 16-week paid internship program that pairs talented CICS students with state institutions to design and implement practical AI solutions to real-world problems. Participants work closely with agency sponsors and UMass mentors to apply data engineering, analytics, and machine learning skills to high-impact public sector challenges.
Launched in partnership with the Healey-Driscoll administration,, AI4CW brings together UMass Amherst undergraduates, faculty mentors, and public sector partners to explore how cutting-edge generative AI can strengthen state services and benefit communities across the Commonwealth.
