In partnership with Environment Canada through our Data Core program, we created a computer vision model to track bird migrations across Canada. Data from recent years show a decrease in bird populations across North America, prompting interest in studying their migration patterns and habitats. When a flock of birds all take off at once, they create a bloom visible in weather radar images. We analyze this radar data to track bird migrations across the country, which can provide researchers and environmental scientists the necessary data to analyze our avian populations. This work is done in partnership with Daniel Sheldon’s research group.
